How did you start your journey in the world of tattooing, and what inspired you to pursue it professionally?
Since my school years, I have nurtured a special love for painting. As an adult, I gradually discovered the unique beauty of tattoo art—where each tattoo is a living work of art on the human body. I realized that tattooing is not simply a form of decoration, but also a means to express personality, creativity, passion for art, as well as the desire to bring beauty to others. That is what motivated me to orient my future path and pursue the art of tattooing seriously and professionally. During my work, I have come into contact with many customers and personally created meaningful tattoos for them, which makes me love the profession even more. Each completed work is a great source of inspiration, helping me to constantly strive to learn and develop myself to create more and more beautiful, delicate, and quality tattoos.
Your style focuses on a modern interpretation of traditional Japanese tattooing. What does this style mean to you?
The traditional Japanese and new traditional tattoo styles that I am pursuing are not simply an aesthetic choice, but also have deep meaning for me. This is a school of tattoo art with a long history, containing many layers of cultural meaning, and is a way for artists to show respect and connect with the unique culture of Japan. With the characteristics of large-sized designs, tight layouts, clear lines, and harmonious colors, this style creates conditions for me to promote my strengths in compositional thinking and line techniques. At the same time, it is also a great source of motivation for me to constantly learn, practice my skills, and develop myself, in order to create increasingly sophisticated works with a strong personal mark.
How do you describe your creative process, from the moment a client shares an idea with you to the final design coming to life on the skin?
From the beginning of my work, I always focus on discussing thoroughly with my clients before doing any tattoo. I take the time to listen to their wishes regarding the tattoo content, body location, size, as well as style of expression. After agreeing on a specific plan, I start designing the model. During this process, I always listen to the client to ensure the design suits their preferences and emotions. I encourage clients to share their opinions, comments, or suggestions for editing so that the final product is truly personal and makes them most satisfied. Once the design is complete, I begin the tattooing process. During the working time, I often discuss and ask about the client's feelings to ensure they feel comfortable and secure. I believe that sincere and dedicated communication will bring the client not only a beautiful tattoo, but also a memorable experience.
What are the key technical aspects of your drawing and tattooing process, and how do you achieve such clean lines, intricate details, and vibrant colors?
In the new traditional Japanese tattoo style that I pursue, one of the most important factors is to clearly understand the character that I portray—not only in appearance but also in temperament. Each character in the tattoo has its own story, its own spirit: it can be brave, majestic, or sometimes deeply sad. To fully convey that emotion through each line, I always research carefully before starting to design and perform the tattoo. Technically, I pay special attention to the precision and cleanliness of each stroke. I constantly practice, drawing by hand a lot to improve my ability to feel the shape and control the tattoo machine skillfully. The lines in this style are often clear, decisive, and require high precision, so I always try to achieve neatness and sharpness in every detail. Many Japanese-style tattoos require the coordination of many layers of complex patterns and motifs. This requires the artist to have patience, high concentration, and solid skills so that each detail is done meticulously and perfectly. Color also plays a very important role. I always try to understand the skin characteristics of each customer to adjust the depth of the needle so that the ink adheres evenly, does not damage the skin, and at the same time ensures the color is standard and vivid. Color matching and polishing need to be done delicately to create depth and overall harmony for the tattoo. In addition, I only use high-quality tattoo ink, with good color adhesion, safe, and does not cause skin irritation. I believe that to create a beautiful and long-lasting tattoo, there needs to be a close combination of technique, experience, meticulousness, and above all, the artist's creativity.
In 2024 and 2025, you were awarded at international conventions in Taiwan. What did those recognitions mean to you?
Winning prestigious awards at two international tattoo conventions in Taiwan is a memorable milestone in my journey of pursuing tattoo art. This is not only a recognition of my tireless efforts and endeavors, but also a testament to my maturity and reputation in the tattoo community. These awards do not simply bring temporary joy, but also become a strong source of motivation for me to continue learning, creating, and developing further. They are a solid stepping stone that helps me confidently pursue the artistic path I have chosen, with a spirit of progress and increasing responsibility.
What challenges have you had to face in your career?
Tattooing is a very special art, completely different from many other professions. This profession requires a combination of precise techniques, creativity, and subtle communication skills. Therefore, the challenges in the pursuit are not few—and that is also the reason why I appreciate the path I am on even more. Technique is the core element. To overcome technical barriers, I spent a lot of time practicing and constantly learning from previous masters. Improving skills, understanding the structure of the body, skin, machines, and tattoo ink are mandatory to become a professional tattoo artist. In addition, creative thinking is the key to creating unique designs—both unique and suitable for the personality and wishes of each customer. Each tattoo is a story, so creativity also needs to be accompanied by listening and understanding. The biggest challenge, perhaps, comes from the human element—the psychology of the client. Each person has their own expectations, emotions, and reasons for choosing a tattoo. Therefore, I always focus on communicating, listening, and explaining clearly so that the client feels secure and satisfied. Handling the client’s requests professionally and carefully is the key to creating a positive experience and leaving a good impression of the artist.
What are your future plans?
In the future, I hope to expand my tattoo shop to become more professional and larger—not only a place to provide high-quality tattoo services, but also a true art space, where customers can feel the creativity and passion in each work. In addition to developing my business, I am always aware of the importance of continuous learning. I will continue to improve my knowledge, practice my professional skills, as well as update new trends in tattoo art. At the same time, I plan to participate in many international tattoo art competitions and exhibitions to exchange and connect with the global artist community, learn from those who have gone before, and constantly improve my skills. I believe that with perseverance, effort, and clear direction, the road ahead will become more and more open—and I will always maintain my passion for the profession, constantly develop to bring true artistic values to customers.
How would you describe your relationship with tattooing?
Tattoo art is not just a passion, nor is it simply a job—for me, it is an indispensable part of life. The art of tattooing brings me positive energy and optimism every day. Every time I hold the machine and create on someone else's skin, I feel like I am living fully as my true self. What makes me most proud is that my career journey has also helped me change the way people in my hometown view tattoo art. From being seen as negative or prejudiced, tattooing is gradually being seen as a form of self-expression, an art form with aesthetic and cultural value. I don't know what the future will bring, but I only know that my love for tattooing is "in my blood"—and it is that love that has helped me overcome many difficulties and challenges to stand firm on the path I have chosen.
