With over 11 years of experience and an artistic vision deeply influenced by his background in architecture, this talented tattoo artist was selected as one of the Top 5 artists in the DGN Tattoo Magazine International Competition. The jury — composed of industry icons Paul Booth, Victoria Lee, Jesse Smith, and Shi Ryu — praised his mastery of realism, a style that not only led him to the finals but also earned him awards in specific categories.

Founder of Crazy Tattoo studio in Ho Chi Minh, his work blends precise technique, aesthetic sensitivity, and a clear narrative intention: to turn each tattoo into a vivid story full of emotion. In this exclusive interview, he shares his journey, his artistic philosophy, and his vision of tattooing as a way to preserve memories and emotions forever.

1.You were chosen by the jury — which, I must say, was made up of some of the tattoo industry's top figures — as one of the five best artists among more than 100 participants from around the world. How did you feel when you received that news?

I felt deeply honored and surprised upon receiving the announcement from DGN Tattoo Magazine. Being selected as one of the five most outstanding artists from over 100 participants worldwide is a significant recognition of my artistic journey. At that moment, I experienced a mix of pride and renewed motivation to continue growing.

2.In addition to being a finalist, you also won in specific categories. What did these awards mean to you, both personally and professionally?

On a personal level, the awards serve as proof of my relentless effort over the past decade. Professionally, they affirm that my realistic style has gained international recognition, while also motivating me to further enhance my skills and contribute more to the tattoo art industry.

3.You have over 11 years of tattoo experience and started out studying architecture. How has that background influenced the way you approach tattoo art?

My architectural background equipped me with the ability to analyze space, composition, and proportion with precision. This influences how I design tattoos, treating the body as a "living space" and ensuring each piece harmonizes with the natural contours of the skin, resulting in balanced and aesthetically pleasing work.

4.What inspires you when creating such intense and detailed expressions within the realistic style?

I draw inspiration from everyday moments—such as the gaze, smiles, or emotions of people—combined with various artworks and cultural influences around me. My goal is to transform each tattoo into a vivid story, where every detail reflects deep emotion.

5.Why did you choose to focus on realism, and what do you find most rewarding — or most challenging — about working in this style?

I chose the realistic style because it allows me to recreate details and emotions in the most authentic way possible. The greatest reward is when clients recognize the artistic value and meaning in my work. The biggest challenge lies in maintaining accuracy on the skin’s uneven surface, which requires meticulous attention and experience.

6.You are the founder of Crazy Tattoo in Ho Chi Minh. How did that project begin, and what is your vision for the studio?

Crazy Tattoo began as a small space in my home, with the desire to create a place where clients and artists could share their passion. My vision is to develop the studio into an art center where young Vietnamese artists can learn, innovate with bold ideas, and promote the realistic style on the international stage.

7.You’ve been a judge in tattoo competitions. How has that experience influenced your perspective on the industry and your own growth as an artist?

Serving as a judge has given me a deeper understanding of the diversity and depth within the tattoo industry, not only in terms of technique but also the stories behind each piece. This has broadened my perspective on the field and motivated me to improve myself to maintain my standing within the artist community.

8.What does it mean to you to preserve stories and emotions through tattooing? What do you hope your clients feel when they see your finished work on their skin?

To me, tattooing is a way to preserve significant moments and emotions in life. Each tattoo represents a personal story. I hope my clients look at the work on their skin and feel a sense of pride, deep meaning, and a connection to the memories that the tattoo symbolizes.

9.Do you already have plans for the upcoming months?

I am planning to expand the Crazy Tattoo space, continue learning and refining my skills to create iconic works, and participate in additional international competitions to promote the realistic style. Additionally, I intend to develop a tattoo collection inspired by green eyes.

10.Finally, to whom do you dedicate your achievements?

I dedicate my achievements to my family, who have always supported me despite initial concerns about my artistic path. I also express my gratitude to my clients for their trust and to my colleagues who have inspired me to go further on this journey.
