Brushing Life onto Skin: The Artistic Odyssey of Andrey Kolbasin

Meet Andrey Kolbasin, a prolific tattoo artist hailing from the vibrant city of Los Angeles, USA. His canvas extends beyond conventional boundaries, reaching the realms of realistic tattoo artistry and traditional painting. Let's delve into the dynamic and inspiring journey of this artistic visionary.

1. Tell us about your journey into the world of tattoo artistry. What inspired you to embark on this career?

I began tattooing due to my lifelong passion for drawing, spurred on by the encouragement of friends who eventually became my initial clients.

2.Realistic tattoos demand a meticulous focus on detail. Could you share insights into your creative process when crafting and tattooing these intricate pieces?

Typically, I approach my tattoo designs with the principles of academic drawing, generating the concepts myself. Ideas emerge spontaneously, and to ensure I capture them, I make a note of everything. When the time is right, I bring these concepts to life on the skin.

4. As both a tattoo artist and a painter/drawer, do you feel that your experiences in one form of art influence or enhance your approach to the other? If so, could you elaborate on how?

I frequently visit fine art museums to study the works of old masters, finding profound inspiration. I aim to make this practice a more regular part of my routine.

5.How would you describe the significance of art in your life?

For me, art is not just a part of my life; it is my life. Being inherently creative, I find immense fulfillment in my work, and the thought of ceasing to create is inconceivable to me.

6. Your realistic tattoo style in color and "black and gray" has gained significant popularity on social media. How has online exposure influenced your work and success?

Since I started evolving my style, I've discovered a new path of development and increased success. While it's too early to speak of specific achievements in this new stage of my career, I'm currently pleased with the outcomes of my work.

7. How do you balance your personal life with your career as a tattoo artist? And what motivates you and helps maintain that balance, especially when facing challenges to find time for rest and family life?

Lately, finding time for rest and family life has been a challenge due to the demands of my career. However, aware of the importance of maintaining balance, I make a conscious effort to set aside time to spend with my family. I find these breaks are crucial for recharging energy and maintaining a balanced perspective on life. The connection with my loved ones becomes a motivational engine, providing the necessary strength to face the demands of the profession.

9. What is your long-term vision? Are there specific goals or special projects you aspire to undertake in the future?

Certainly, my long-term vision involves active participation in various exhibitions. I believe this exposure is instrumental in allowing people to become more acquainted with me as both an artist and a tattoo artist. Engaging in exhibitions not only broadens my artistic horizons but also provides a platform to connect with a diverse audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship behind my work. Ultimately, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the art community and leave a lasting impact through my creative endeavors.

Andrey, thank you for your time and for participating in this enriching interview about art and creativity. Your works are magnificent!
